Tara Nicholson is a photo-based artist who investigates her connection to the northern landscape. In the production of this new work, Nicholson made several trips to the boreal forest throughout British Columbia, Alberta and Quebec, questioning her attraction to wilderness and its mythical presence within Canada. Her images can be seen as documents of her own desire to photograph the stillness in this landscape and an attraction to something fleeting or ephemeral.

Justin Tyler Tate’s artwork combines elements of sculpture, installation, and performance. Tate is concerned with the relationship viewers have with art, particularly the position of the viewer as the subject of an art object, how the context of the gallery affects the connection, and the way in which function is interpreted. Art Rover and 01 Tete are newer robotics based installations that use the gallery, art and viewer as points of catalyst. In the activated space between object and viewer, the work is left to create a myriad of associations and possible interpretations.

Nicholson was born in British Columbia and is currently an MFA candidate at Concordia University. She holds a BFA from Ryerson University’s School of Image Arts and a Diploma in Art History from the University of British Columbia.

Tate was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and grew up in Cape Coral, Florida. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University.
